The Great Server Rebuild Fiasco of 2002
From OpenBrainstem
In May of 2002, I was upgrading my home file server from a just-stopped-receiving-errata version of SuSE Linux to the current release. I decided to do a complete rebuild in order to restructure some things and get rid of some old cruft. Of course, with a restructuring of Logical Volumes, I had been quite thourough about making backups before wiping out the disks.
When I was finished restoring all my data to the newly rebuilt system, it turned out that only one directory somehow hadn't made it into the backup. It just happened to be the one directory that held every last line of PHP code I had ever written.
Anyway, it was a few months before my disgust with myself over this died down enough to start writing PHP code again.
