Code Copyrights & Licensing

All code released by OpenBrainstem is Copyrighted. The Copyrights are held by the individuals who created the code, graphics, documentation and other materials included in OpenBrainstem releases.

All code released by OpenBrainstem is Licensed under an open source license. The only licenses that are acceptable for use in the release of OpenBrainstem software are those found to meet the definition of open source license as laid out by the Open Source Initiative.

However, as not all open source licenses fit all situations, some of the licenses may be deemed unacceptable for a particular project. Such decisions are ultimately up to Peregrine, though input from the projects' participants will be taken very seriously.

Wiki Content Copyrights & Licensing

All content on the OpenBrainstem Wiki is Copyrighted by Lamont R. Peterson. All contributors to the wiki are required to turn over all copyrights to OpenBrainstem, in the care of Lamont R. Peterson, Founder.

There are two reasons for this:

1. So that all wiki content can remain with the wiki, even if it's author(s) decide to leave OpenBrainstem at some future point;
2. So that OpenBrainstem and any individual given edit access to any wiki content, may edit all content at anytime;

All wiki content is licensed under the terms of a Creative Commons Attribution "Share Alike" license.

Basically, this license boils down to anyone may reuse any of this content as long as they give correct attribution to OpenBrainstem and they must also license the resulting text under the same license. IANAL, so be sure to read the full license text rather than relying on my tiny summary of it for any kind of legal purposes.

Non-Wiki Documentation Copyrights & Licensing

Each project head may decide under which license to release documentation not included in the wiki. Documentation found in the wiki, but also released in other forms, must be licensed under the same terms as the wiki.

As all documentation is also supposed to be in the wiki, all OpenBrainstem projects' documentation should be licensed under the same Creative Commons license that covers all wiki content.

At each Project Lead's discretion, documentation could be dual-licensed under the OpenBrainstem wiki Creative Commons license and under the GNU Free Documentation License (a.k.a. the GNU FDL).
